Our Exercise Referral Scheme supports residents living with medical conditions who would benefit from structured, supervised physical activity. The programme is delivered in partnership with South Cambridgeshire District Council and provides a safe, supportive environment to help you improve your health and wellbeing.
What the scheme offers
The GP Referral Scheme operates on a 12‑week personalised fitness programme based on participants attending two sessions per week.
Participants receive:
A tailored fitness programme designed around your medical needs, abilities, and goals
Supervision from fully qualified GP Referral instructors
Support to work towards outcomes such as:
- Weight loss or weight gain
- Improved mental health
- Increased mobility and strength
- Condition‑specific or performance‑related goals
Your wellbeing and progress are at the heart of the programme.
Session times
Mondays and Fridays 11:00 to 12:00
During these times, the gym is closed to the public and reserved exclusively for GP Referral participants, ensuring a calm, supportive environment.
How to join
Access to the scheme is by referral only from a:
- GP
- Physiotherapist
- Nurse
- Other healthcare professional
If you believe you may be eligible, please speak to your health professional about making a referral.

- £20 per month (Direct Debit)
- Or £200 per year
- No contract and no joining fee
Membership includes
- Access to the fitness suite and free weights
- A wide range of studio classes
- Free badminton court hire
- Free induction and ongoing advice from friendly, qualified instructors
Participants on the GP Referral Scheme can continue exercising with this concession rate after completing the 12‑week programme.
What to expect in sessions
Each participant begins with an initial assessment with a qualified instructor. This includes:
- Discussion of your medical background
- Understanding your goals
- A personalised programme created just for you
During sessions, you will:
- Take part in a group warm‑up and cool‑down
- Work through your tailor‑made exercise plan under supervision
- Receive ongoing guidance, motivation, and support
